Opening keynote: Reflecting on 25 years with Scott Anderberg, CEO of Moodle
The conference kicked off with a keynote from Moodle’s CEO, Scott Anderberg, who reflected on Moodle’s remarkable journey over the last 25 years. Scott celebrated Moodle’s global impact, from empowering educators in small community schools to supporting large-scale educational institutions. Highlights included new tools to streamline workflows and improve third-party integration, all while staying true to Moodle’s core values of openness and adaptability. Marie’s presentation left the community eager to see how these advancements will empower their work in the coming year.
Breakthrough in inclusivity: AI-powered translation for Moodle
One of the standout sessions was presented by Isaac Manzi (GIZ) and Samuel Rutunda (Digital Umuganda), who showcased an AI-powered translation plugin that promises to make digital education more inclusive. Built on the NLLB 200 model, this tool translates course content from English to Kinyarwanda, with plans to expand to more languages. This innovative plugin, designed to support local communities, is a powerful example of how AI and open-source technology can work together to break down language barriers and make education accessible to more learners around the world.
Closing reflections and community celebration
In his closing remarks, Scott Anderberg reflected on the conference’s highlights and expressed gratitude to the vibrant Moodle community.
